Summer or winter, it's stronger than us, we have to slide on a board. On concrete or on water, we are comfortable when our two feet are placed vertically. So we're talking about wakesurfing (or wake surfing, in French).
WAKESURFING, WHAT IS IT?
Wakesurfing is a water sport between wakeboarding and surfing. (One way or another, you get to spend your day on the water, so we love it!)
Unlike surfing, you will be towed by a boat to get you out of the water. And, unlike wakeboarding, the latter travels at a much slower speed to generate a wave that allows you to surf.
The board looks much more like a surfboard, but in a miniature version and without attachments for your feet. So you have to rely only on your balance to stay upright. Since the waves are rarer in our area, wakesurfing is the alternative of choice to give you the feeling of surfing behind a boat!
EQUIP YOURSELF IN WAKESURF
In terms of equipment, it's super simple: all you need is a board, a trackpad and fins.
THE BOARD
We suggest wakesurfs from Lib Tech. Over the past few years the team has worked hard to develop boards that feel like high performance surfboards, but behind a boat.
They deduced that straight shapes gave speed… So they put straighter “rail lines”. When the tail of the board is wider, it is also faster and allows you to perform jumps more efficiently. Guess what they did? They widened the back of their wakesurf! You will automatically feel the difference, in addition to definitely having more control with this board.
Lib Tech's wakesurfs have therefore been thought out and designed by surfers who appreciate the controlled wave at the back of a boat. You will have guaranteed fun with these boards!
WAKE TRACKPAD OR WAX?
The trackpad is the part that gives you more control over your board. Some prefer the latter to wax. It gives a much cleaner finish and comfort. As a bonus, it will allow you to grip your board more easily at times.
Another plus point with the trackpad is that it works in all temperatures, so no need to worry about the weather when you go out to practice your sport. And, as we told you above, it's very clean, so you don't have to worry about getting a stain on your boat's interior upholstery. For beginners, the trackpad is the ideal solution. It can be a bit tricky to install, but once in place it will outlast wax. So you don't have to break your head and you're always ready for an outing!
On the other hand, the trackpad has some negative points:
- - it can limit your movements: when it does not cover the entire board, the surface of the board can become very slippery if you put your foot next to it;
- - you feel the board less under your feet due to the thickness of the trackpad.
The wax basically does the same job as the trackpad. This is the method that has been used for a long time and, as they say, it has proven itself. On the application side, several techniques exist, and the choice of one of them is really specific to each one.
Unlike the trackpad, the wax allows you to better feel the vibrations of the board and increases your response time. Not insignificant aspect, the wax is obviously less expensive than the trackpad.
The differences between the trackpad and the wax being minimal, it's really a question of feeling at this point. Even some use both!
